Temporary Home-Stay Program!

Please complete this form if you are in need of a temporary home-stay after you arrive to the US. We would like to assist you in looking for a temporary home-stay family who will provide a room for you during your first two weeks stay here while you look for more permanent housing. Below are some guidelines which ALL hosts will expect you to agree with before you live with them. As this is a FREE service to you we can NOT guarantee that we can locate a temporary home-stay family for you. We will do our best but recommend that you continue to look on your own as well. Please know that our temporary home-stay families are wonderful Christian loving people and they want to be obedient to God by showing you kindness.

  1. When you are in your home-stay families home, you should always be polite and courteous. You are an ambassador of your country, and the impression you leave will depend on your attitude and actions.

  2. Conversation with your home-stay family is very important so that you can learn about each other.  Do not worry about your English ability.  Your family understands and will help you.  Use English as much as possible, even when you are with other students.

  3. Household chores are a shared responsibility in the American home.  ALL family members help with daily housework.  Please keep your room clean and clean your own dishes after meals.  You should also do your own laundry, unless your home-stay family prefers to do it for you.

  4. When you leave your home-stay family's home, please tell your family where you are going and approximately what time you will return home.  If you do not intend to return home for a prepared meal, please let your host family know well in advance.

  5. Always ask your home-stay family before inviting friends or guests to the home.  You should wait for an invitation from the host family before bringing someone home for a meal.

  6. If you go on outing (for example, to a restaurant or movies) with your family, you should always offer to pay your own way.

  7. The average home-stay has a limited supply of hot water at any one time.  Please be considerate as to the length of your shower.

  8. If you have a car, please ask your home-stay family where you may park it.

  9. Most home-stay families do not smoke and prefer students not to smoke in their home.  One should ask permission before smoking inside the home.  IF THE ANSWER IS "NO", do NOT smoke in your home-stay family's home.

  10. California law prohibits individuals under 21 years of age from drinking alcoholic beverages.  Some home-stay families may have chosen not to drink and may ask that you not drink in their home. If this is the case, you must respect their wishes.

  11. If you want to invite a friend to stay in your home-stay family's home for one or more nights, you must get permission from your home-stay family first. Also, if your friend is staying there for one or more nights, it is expected that you or they pay a rental fee.

  12. When a man rents a room, a woman is NOT allowed to stay the night, even if they pay the rental fee.  When a woman rents a room, a man is NOT allowed to stay the night, even if they pay the rental fee.
