Well, we’re planning a fun activity for all of you as a kick-off to Spring Break.  On Saturday March 22, we’re organizing a hike and picnic in a beautiful area called the Sunol Regional Wilderness.  It’s just about 20 minutes from Fremont by car, so it isn’t very far away, but it will probably be the nicest scenery you’ve seen so far in the local area.   The setting is among beautiful green hills and mountains, near a creek, with beautiful oak trees, etc. The hiking will not be difficult, so don’t worry if you’re not in the greatest shape.  Anyone can do it!  Most of the trails are just a few miles, and you can do as much or as little as you like. 

We’ll meet at the Ohlone College campus at 9:30 in the morning, next to Hyman Hall in parking lot "B" and carpool to the park, go hiking, and then have lunch together around the picnic tables at the park.   Some of the local Americans that you met at the Welcome Dinner will be coming and helping to provide rides. There is no drinking water available at this park right now, so you must bring water with you—at least two bottles, since we’ll be hiking and having lunch.  It would not be safe to drink from the creek, even though it does look clean! 

Please also bring your lunch with you so that you can eat whenever you feel like it or when you finish hiking. Since the location is not far from here, the weather will be similar to that at home, but it is recommended that you have a light jacket with you.   When you go up high into the hills, it is sometimes cool and windy. We hope for beautiful weather like we’ve had lately, but if it does happen to rain that day, we’ll postpone the trip to the following Saturday, at the end of Spring Break.
